A New York man leaps into the rich list after winning $343.8 million on the US Powerball lottery on October 27th.
Presented with his winners cheque at the Resorts World Casino in Queens this week Robert Bailey opted for his prize in a lump sum and is now richer to the tune of $125 million after taxes.
As a lottery winner you have beaten extraordinary odds and it wasn't just Robert who beat the statistically improbable on the same draw because he split the jackpot with a lady who lives in Iowa.
Both picked the same winning numbers, 8, 12, 13, 19 and 27, with a Powerball of 4.
When presented with his winners cheque Robert said: "I said to myself, 'These look like my numbers.' I tried to remain calm and sat down to watch some shows I had on my DVR. I didn't sleep the rest of the night."
Planning to spend some of the money on a house for his mother Robert now plans to go travelling with Las Vegas and parts of the Caribbean high on his itinerary.
And Robert also plans to be a charitable lottery winner and give back to his home town of Manhattan.
"I plan to give back to Manhattan; that's where I'm from," Bailey said. "I still want to be me. I can't let money change me. I'm going to keep doing the right thing." He said.
