It is so easy to accidentally leave something behind especially since it can be tempting to "mess" with your phone while waiting to be served in the local store.
Well, a New Jersey man who claimed a $273 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot this week had this exact scenario play out a few weeks ago.
Mike Weirsky purchased two Mega Millions tickets from Quick Chek on New Brunswick Avenue in Pohatcong Township, but was so consumed with his cell phone, he forgot to pick up the tickets when he left the store.
As soon as he realised, Weirsky headed back to the store in a bid to reunite with his two $2 Mega Millions tickets and fortunately for the 54-year-old 1984 Phillipsburg High School graduate the tickets had been handed in.
His run of good fortune continued on Friday when the Mega Millions draw took place and the jackpot winning numbers 29-33-39-60-66 with a Mega Ball of 21 exactly matched one of his tickets but it took until Sunday for the new multi millionaire to check his tickets and realise he had won the lottery.
Weirsky who is divorced and unemployed has bought a new Ford Raptor pickup, plans to buy a new house and says those who treated him well before will have his ear.
Joking with the press Weirsky said: "I was a bum in high school, I was a bum after, maybe I'll be a beach bum now."
