A double lottery winner

A lottery player from Illinois in the United States got the shock of his life this week winning not once but twice on two of his favourite lottery games.

The road to riches began with a $10,000 prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket and less than a week later he collected $1 million from playing the Powerball lottery.

The man who has opted to keep his identity secret told Illinois Lottery officials that the dramatic turn of events began after he purchased the winning Powerball ticket after collecting his $10,000 scratch-off prize.

Man with Money

"I bought my tickets and put them straight into my pocket until Tuesday after the draw; that's the day I usually like to check my tickets," the lucky winner said.

And to his excited surprise, he saw he had scooped up a staggering $1 million on the Powerball ticket.

"I walked into my girlfriend's house and yelled 'Yahoo!' She couldn't believe it either and started crying," he said.

Rather than get a taste of the high life with his new found wealth the winner has plans to give back to his community.

"I have a list of all of my favorite charities that I want to donate money to, such as Smile Train and Operation Smile. It's important to give back," he said.
