Playing lotteries requires you to go through a process; pick your numbers, pay for your ticket, check the results and claim your prize within the time scale!
Eighty-five-year-old Bob Hissom from Michigan almost missed out on a Lucky for Life $400,000 lottery win this week because he did not check his ticket for almost twelve months.
With the clock ticking to the prize being given away to good causes Bob decided it was about time he checked all his old tickets that he keeps in a tin. And sure enough one of them was a winner with just days left the claim the big prize.
"I hold onto everything, I don't throw anything away," said Bob. "I folded it up and put it in the box, I didn't think it was a winner," he said. "I'm 85 years old, I'm not going to go for 20 years, so I said it is obvious it has to be the lump sum,"
Bob and his late wife played the lottery on a regular basis and after claiming his prize he revealed that his wife always thought they would win a major lottery prize one day.
"You want to know how many times the number 4 came up in the last few years, she could tell you," he said.
Bob plans to follow his wifes wishes and help out members of his family with some of the money saying "It's not enough for everyone to be millionaires or whatnot, but it's going to help us," he said.
